The name Peter Phillips may not ring a bell if you aren’t a beauty expert, but you probably remember Chanel Jade and Particulière nail polishes, don’t you? Well, Peter was the responsible for creating the colours that changed the market forever, but long before that, he was working his brushes in a very particular way. His background in Graphic Design at Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, where he met some of the celebrated Belgian designers as Raf Simons, helped him develop a specific eye for colours and shapes, however he began painting faces at 27 only, with a little push from fashion friends.
From 2008 to 2013 Peter was Chanel’s makeup artistic director and created some nail polish hits (Riva, Paradoxal, Gold Fiction, Robertson Boulevard range…), the Rouge Coco lipsticks and special products for the shows, like temporary tattoos (Spring 2010), leather-texture eye shadows (Autumn 2010), lash-laces (Spring 2013 couture) and glitter applied under the eyes (Spring 2014 couture). Between 2013 and 2014, he left his post but worked as freelancer for Chanel until Dior called, offering the job of image creative director of makeup. He replaced Pat McGrath and didn’t disappoint. The first look, for Resort 2015 was a new cat eye version, with 2 lines, powerful lashes and nothing more!
With the arrival of Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior, I’m wondering what colours and textures he will come up for the next seasons…
