You know that beautiful, smooth, shining, silky and bouncing hair from shampoo commercials? For me it has always been perfectly achiavable. That’s probably the reason my quest for perfect hair never ends. I’ve written here about my hair dryer detox, which was deepened after my move to London. Now I almost never use it, only when I have to wash it late at night, right before bedtime (I still hate to sleep with wet hair). I try to do it every other day in the morning and to get volume and texture, I trust the old school tools: the hair “cap” or medium rollers, which are my best friends!
So, in theory, there was no reason to have dry hair since without the damaging dryer heat and with all the care I take, among masks, serums, leave-ins and oils, it should be as good as in shampoo ads. Oh, and I also bought a shower filter (link). But no way!!!
I’m beginning to seriously suspect that the weather is to blame. The dry, cold air not only makes hair flat, but may also contribute to let it less hydrated. And it gets tangled so easily, especially when rubbing with coats, scarves etc. or it’s windy. I’ve learned to always leave the house in a bun or ponytail and just let it down in an indoor space. For the last couple of months I’m in a frenetic search for products and already tested John Frieda Miraculous Recovery shampoo and mask, Aveda Damage Remedy shampoo, mask and leave-in, OGX argain oil shampoo and conditioner, Lush Jasmine and Henna Fluff Ease, Dead Sea Spa Magik Hair Magic Serun and Peach Shampoo for Suicidal Hair from Anatomicals. They are all ok but not outstanding. I’m still considering Olaplex no 3 (Kim Kardashian swears that it’s what recovered her hair after discolouration), Phillip Kingsley Elasticizer and Kerástase Resistance line.
Meanwhile, I came up with the idea of mixing coconut and avocado oils in a bland L’oréal mask, and also use it in a leave-in mix (I love to make up formulas) and I got the best results. I noticed that hair is smoother and detangled. Now I’m thinking about adding jojoba, argan, macadamia, marula oils to this mixture and, who knows, not only make peace with my hair but also start a new venture? 🙂
