Dr. Om Prawarisa is one of these people who knows what they want to do with their lives since childhood: to create a skincare range. But first she went to learn about the industry working for over a decade with some of the best-known brands in the world, focusing on research and development. During this period she realised that her approach to skincare should be built around mindfulness, combining science with the Chi Energy, so OM Skincare was born with the purpose to be a meditation for the skin. In this interview, she talks about the challenges of starting over and how to overcome the bumps on the entrepreneurial road.

Project M: What motivated you to launch OM Skincare?
Dr.Om Prawarisa: I asked myself a question when I started OM skincare, how would my brand benefit others people beyond just the skincare products. I tied in my scientific knowledge and extensive researches with my strong believe that great skin is about your state of mind just as much as what is in the products that you are using. I submerged myself in Ancient Wisdom and I wanted to share these practise. I was driven to find a way to create a brand that embraced mindfulness and encompassed all my beliefs and discoveries – a skincare brand that harnessed dynamic ingredients with mindfulness to deliver maximum skincare benefits. OM Skincare was born – created with love and passion…

Project M: What are the biggest challenges you have faced so far?
Dr.Om Prawarisa: I jumped from researching job in a laboratory as a scientist and working for my family business to start my own business across continent away from home and family.  I am very proud that OM skincare have the place in the market, loved by customers and have been recognised within the industry by awards-winning achievements.

Project M: What advice would you share with those thinking about creating a business?
Dr.Om Prawarisa: There was countless time that things did not turn out the way I expected; many unforeseeable circumstances, changes and challenges could occur in any second. Sometimes things are just out of my control, I have learnt to see these situations as a part of journey to success and just keep going, finding the solution and moving forward. The journey wasn’t sprinkle with roses, there were bumpy road and twisted turn but I never give up and kept reminding myself that everything will be fine.
