She is so famous that Disney made a cartoon of her in the video of its partnership with Barneys, in 2012. In the backstage of the most prestigious shows she is the chosen one of most labels. Pat McGrath is not a model or designer. She is simply one of the most famous and influential makeup artists in the world!

The British born, self-taught artist who is Procter & Gamble creative director (she looks after Max Factor, Cover Girl and Dolce & Gabbana, for example) and also has contributed to many cosmetics lines (Giorgio Armani Beauty among them) has a unique talent to manage brushes – although she prefers to use her fingers – and an eye to translate fabrics and textures into face colours. This last aspect helped her to create a successful partnership with Edward Enninful (then fashion editor of i-D, currently at W), in the early 1990’s. Shortly after, she started to collaborate with Jil Sander and John Galliano, creating paradoxical looks: on one side, Jil’s minimalism was all about “less is more” whilst for Galliano the sky was the limit. By then, Pat was Steven Meisel’s darling and a favourite of other high profile photographers as Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh and Paolo Roversi.

The title of most influential makeup artist was given in a Vogue profile from September 2007. Almost 10 years later and she is still nailing it! Among some of the memorable looks are the strategically highlighted skin from Louis Vuitton autumn/winter 2010, colourful eyes and lips + crystal applications at Dior shows for spring 2013 (ready to wear and couture) and the vintage look (cat eye + red lips) for many Dolce & Gabbana shows and campaigns.

In 2015 Pat finally launched her own cosmetics in a very limited edition. Gold 001 was a pigment that only a thousand lucky people had the chance to try. The Phantom 002 line was a set of 8 products inspired by past decades and the Labs 003 is coming soon, hopefully with a full range of cosmetics. Can’t wait to see!
